Our Last Full Day

So this morning when I woke up I couldn't remember where I was.. We woke up early (for once) and went to the award assembly. Texas was raking in the creative art prizes!! It was pretty disheartening to hear them call "Bethany.....Not West!" There was some other chick named Bethany from like gaybo Wisconsin or somewhere. It was awesome when they called Adam's name. Richard haha. I was pretty mad when we didn't win costume, because the couple who placed before us costume sucked. The girl had a paper collar, where mine was made out of gold fabric and had cute little jewels on it. Booooo. And we probably got points taken off because we didn't give enough historical evidence, when it said in the rule book that we weren't supposed to be graded based on what we said. And I didn't place in DI, though the girl who did put so many hand gestures in her performance that she looked like a windmill. Oh well, I have my dignity and she does not. Plus I'm just glad I placed in state because that got me here. :) Adam says "hi".

It was so exciting!! He had to go to the bathroom and missed his name being called, lol. I had to go pick it up for him. But anyways he beat like two whole tablefuls of cartoon entries!!

Thursday Afternoon

We slept in really late this morning and then went and viewed the art exhibit... I was hoping my blank ink drawing would have a good chance of placing, but there were some really awesome drawings.. One was the portraits of five or six gods and goddesses done in elaborate detail, and another was of an intense battle scene. Needless to say my little Roman helmet didn't look so intimidating next to those. It was fun to look at all the stuff that had been made... Someone did a model of Daedalus's wings made out of the tops of forks. After that we went to our State meeting to vote on the next candidates for national officers.... BORING. It was really frustrating because people kept moving to talk longer about our options and crap. We also had to vote on which charity to chose, and that was chaos. One dude actually said that breast cancer wasn't as important as helping third world countries. Anyways, now we're chillaxing until dinner time. Then we're both gonna take a nap before the talent show and then our ridiculously late state meeting.

Evening

Well today's been going great!! I went and did my mythology test (blew it) this morning and Adam and I just got back from doing our costume contest. We got a lot of good responses from people standing in the hallways and other competers.. A lot of people took our pictures together and one lady said that we looked just like she thought Marc Antony and Cleopatra would. (I didn't want to tell her that there was no way that Cleopatra was blond and blue-eyed, but whatever). This guy who we've seen everywhere was competing too as Hades and boy he was a pain in the butt. He told us that he had to put wrinkles on his face because the god of the underworld wouldn't have such baby faced good looks. BLEH!! All the girls who did Ceres were awesome.. So many details! One had a toga with embroidery that looked like wheat... and one girl had a dress made completely out of balloons! Anyways we looked really sweet and our judges were really nice... the girls' judges asked questions like what the Latin word for basket was... Geez we would have been screwed if we had them! I was kinda worried when I came out of my dorm that I would get made fun of, but right outside my building there were kids having an argument about which Pokemon were stronger. So I got over it.

Anyways we're sitting on the pavilion and playing on the computer... It's so nice and cool out here. California is pretty sweet.

Good morning!!

So we've gotten used to the time difference now, but it's still kinda weird to think that last night while I was going to bed it was 2:30am over there. But anyways I love California!! It didn't get above the low 90's yesterday and when the sun went down it was chilllay. I bought a super cute and collegiate looking sweater and I wear it to sleep in too, because it's freezing in those no AC dorms. I think my DI went O.K. yesterday, but I'm pretty sure I didn't put enough gestures in it because the chick wrote down something whenever I moved my hands. But I wasn't gonna add any at the last second because it might throw me off. I have to leave to go to my myth test here in a second, and hopefully I'll be able to find my way. I've just been following Adam everywhere and not really paying attention to my surroundings. But he's asleep right now so I'll have to make it by myself... I'm going to meet him for hot cocoa and breakfast right after my test. Which hopefully won't be too hard, because I didn't really study for it. I read the whole yellow myth book we have, and that combined with all the Hercules shows and random books should be plenty o' knowledge.

Adam and I are going to look for some student information today because we absolutely love the campus. Everyone rides bikes everywhere because it's such a far walk to any of the buildings! The weather is awesome and the food is super good. They have all these tiny restaurants in the cafeteria and you can eat as much as you want. Yesterday we got two cookies and put them in a bowl and poured soft serve ice cream all over and chocolate chips and crunched it all up. YUM! Anyways I need to start treking over to the Fairborn building to ace this test. TTYL.

Well we got the password for the internet!!! We have to walk down to "Memorial Hall" which is quite a ways but it's totally worth it. Right now we're hanging out on the upstairs patio of the building and chillaxing in the low 80's temp. I could totally live in California. I will be uploading some pics shortly.

Midmorning

Since we slept through the free breakfast, we went to a bakery on campus and got us some of the best hot chocolate I've ever had. We took our hot cocoa (and my banana and his snickerdoodle) out on the "patio" and ate until a little squirrel came up. Adam HAD to feed it some of his cookie and then it wouldn't go away. It practically climbed up in his lap. It was really cute, but definitely smaller than a Texas squirrel. And probably a little on the fruity side, as it's from California. Though I am lovin' California. The morning is cool, and I bought a UCD sweatshirt for the evenings. And probably to sleep in because it's freezing just with the box AC's. I also got my mommy and daddy presents, so they better be extra nice to me :) Actually Adam picked out both of them, but I would've picked them if I had seen them first. Hehe. Well we're about to hit up some free lunch before going to another incredibly unnecessary and boring G.A. (General Assembly), which we pronounce "gay". Hopefully we won't fall asleep again. Then we're going to go make some geniuine Romany masks before I go say my DI piece. Later :)

Adam's Second Blog

Well, what can I say, I was plain pooped out last night and couldn't even walk straight. Beth didn't "carry" me but she did keep me from tripping off the sidewalk or walking into things. I'm much better now that I slept late, and took a decent shower. I'm gonna be super busy today walking around aimlessly with nothing to do but hang with Bethany. I'm in much better spirits now that I'm not running on just fumes of rest, hopefully the rest of the week will be awesome and I only long for my own bed just because I want to sleep in comfortable sheets. :)

Tuesday Morning

Adam and I both skipped breakfast in order to catch up on some sleep. The beds were mucho uncomfortable and it was freezing!! I'm gonna go down to the bookstore and see if they don't sell hoodies and maybe blankets because it got really cold after sunset last night.. and I didn't bring stuff for that at all. This evening I have my dramatic interpretation competition. From the list, it looked like there was 11 people in my level so far. Which isn't bad, but is a lot more from the 2-3 I'm used to!! They made all the 1/2 levels bump up to level 1. Anyways, I'm more excited about my art than anything else. I think it really has a chance to do well. I'm so proud of it!! If I placed at nationals I would have to get a big present, I think ;). Adam did his oratory last night so he has nothing to do today except we're going to maybe go to a lecture if we haven't missed them already. He was soooo tired last night I had to practically carry him back to the dorms. He kept veering of the sidewalk, lol. The meeting last night was pretty ridiculous. It didn't cover any info we didn't know already, and then they gave us some cheers. Which are so much fun when you've been for almost 24 hours. NOT. Well, hopefully today will pick up. Yesterday I was ready to be in my own bed, at home. Maybe today it will finally sink in that we're in California. I think I'm going to try and bring my laptop in here, because there's no wi-fi in the rooms and I'm kinda worried about loading pictures up on this one in the Rec Room or whatever. Anyways, it's time to start the day!

First night in California

Well as far as I can tell, we might as well be in Texas. It's hot, Hot, HOT!! And humid. Plus we've only seen like three palmtrees. The campus is alright, I actually have a roommate now. :P She seems nice but I was looking forward to having my own space. She had a funny accent so I asked where she was from and she said Dallas... but I'm pretty sure she's a foreign exchange student. We went bowling tonight in the underground bowling alley.. I schooled Adam muahaha. But it threw off his game because the alleys were so short and the floor wasn't slippery. Electra 1, Thunder 0. And we still have a meeting to go to.. ugh. I would upload pictures I've been taking on here but I left my connector cord in the dorm. Oh well. Just imagine us looking really tired and sweaty but having fun. Well good night :)

Adam's Post

Today has been the longest day of my life because i have been up for almost...21hrs...on 1 hour of sleep...yeah...I'M EXHAUSTED!!! I am currently resting my head on my arm while I type this because I'm so tired...and Bethany is just sitting here snorring aways disrupting all the important meetings going on...not really but she could if she really wanted to. Anyway, today was the first time I've ever flown and it was AWESOME. Taking off is my favortie part because of all the ear popping that goes on between when you first start down the runway to the few minutes it takes to get 6 MILES in the air. Well, that's all from me for the day so here's Bethany...

It's Definitely a Monday

Woohoo! Today's been crazy. But unfortunately I am feeling pretttty stupid right now. I locked my key in my room when I was taking a shower and had to go get someone to open it. It's times likes these that you know God loves you- because I totally almost just took a towell with me and left my clothes in the room!!

Anyways today is going pretty swell.

Sunday's Schedule

Church, iron stuff, eat lunch, pack everything tight, go to bed early, wake up and pack something I forgot.

We leave tomorrow morning at 2am... our flight leaves at 6am. Super excited.

So far...

This is my boyfriend, Adam. He's a weirdo. He placed 4th in Latin Oratory which is why he's going to Nationals in Davis, California. Oratory is kind of like Dramatic Interpretation, which is what I placed in. Here is part of what I had to memorize:

Anyways, that's why we're going to CALIFORNIA MONDAY!!!!!! I'm super duper p-syched.

Adam and I are leaving for Latin nationals tomorrow! Well, Monday morning early enough to be Sunday still.
